Little is known about Vladimir Megre's early life, apart from a few experiences he describes in his writings. One of these occurred in the 1960s when as a teenager he made periodic visits to a monk called Father Feodorit at the Trinity-Sergiev Monastery, in Sergiev Posad (then known as Zagorsk), just east of Moscow.[1]
In the mid-1980s Megre was married, having a daughter (Polina) and living in Novosibirsk, where, like many other new Russian capitalists, he took advantage of Perestroika and the subsequent collapse of the communist system to launch into an entrepreneurial career. He formed a number of commercial co-operatives and by the late 1980s had leased a fleet of river steamers which plied the waters of theOb River north of Novosibirsk.[2]

Megre claims to have met a mysterious young woman named Anastasia on the bank of the River Obin 1994. She reportedly led him deep into the Siberian taiga, where she revealed her philosophy on Man's relationship to Nature, the Universe and God, as well as lifestyle, education, nutrition, spirituality, love, family, sexual relations and other plants. These teachings became the basis for a series of best-selling books, The Ringing Cedars of Russia, first published in 1996. In ten years they sold over 10 million copies and have been translated into twenty languages.
Back to the Land movement
The Ringing Cedars series offers material about living close to the Earth in a village of Kin's domains by creating a 'Space of Love'.[3] The books have become the basis for a Russian and increasingly worldwide Back to the Land movement based on the Russian tradition of self-reliant simple living on the land, providing physical subsistence and spiritual fulfillment.[4] It is one of a number of such projects in Russia.[5] The books and communities combine deep ecology with traditional, even conservative family values, quite unlike the conventional hippie alternative lifestyle.[6] This is based on the idea of "kin estates" or self-sufficient family homesteads.[7] Before the publication of the first book in the series, there were virtually no eco-villages in Russia. By June 5, 2004, eight years later, a conference of the Ringing Cedars Movement in Vladimir, attracted delegates from over 150 eco-villages from across 48 of the 89 regions of Russia[8]
Megré's ideas are similar to those of Russia's agricultural economist Alexander Chayanov eighty years earlier,[9] referring to harmonious relationship with nature based on sustainable rural settlements consisting of individual family-owned homesteads.[10] Also like Chayanov, Megré presents his ideas in a novel-like format. He admits using this strategy to minimize initial resistance to his writings.[11]

By June 5, 2004, eight years later, a conference of the Ringing Cedars Movement in Vladimir, attracted delegates from over 150 eco-villages from across 48 of the 89 regions of Russia[8]
Megré's ideas are similar to those of Russia's agricultural economist Alexander Chayanov eighty years earlier,[9] referring to harmonious relationship with nature based on sustainable rural settlements consisting of individual family-owned homesteads.[10] Also like Chayanov, Megré presents his ideas in a novel-like format. He admits using this strategy to minimize initial resistance to his writings.[11]
In addition to Russia, Anastasia centers can be found in Australia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands,[12]New Zealand, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States.[13]
One New Age writer relates the Ringing Cedar books to the "great change" Edgar Cayce prophesied for Russia.[14]

The flakes of the cedar nut are obtained by pressing the cedar nut oil from the kernel of the cedar nut. In contrast to the whole cedar nut, cedar nut flakes are distinguished by their increased proportional content of vitamins, trace elements, and plant proteins owing to the reduction of the fat content. In the processing of pressing the cedar nut oil, 10–16% of the cedar nut oil is retained in the flakes.
The protein in the flakes made from the kernel of the cedar nut surpasses an ideal protein in its content of histidine, methionine, cysteine, and tryptophan, and has a well balanced composition. The carbohydrate composition of the kernel of the cedar nut is represented by polysaccharides (starch, cellulose, pentosans, dextrins) and water-soluble sugars (glucose, fructose, sucrose, and raffinose). According to the results of medical research, a similar protein facilitates the dissolving of harmful cholesterol in the blood, and also prevents the formation of cancer cells.
The lecithin contained in cedar nut flakes is a basic chemical substance for the formation of the intercellular space, the normal functioning of the nervous system, and the healthy activity of brain cells. Lecithin is essential for the organism as a building material for the renewal of damaged cells. Lecithin is also the basic transport substance for the delivery of nutrients to the cells. Lecithin makes up 50% of the liver, 1/3 of the myelin insulating and protective tissues that surround the cerebrum and spinal cord. Lecithin is a powerful antioxidant and prevents the formation of highly toxic free radicals in the organism.
Flakes made from the kernel of the Siberian cedar contain a high quantity of mineral substances—up to 5%, which are represented by a specific set of macroelements and trace elements. There is a high content of phosphorus and magnesium. Only 100 g of cedar nut contains the human daily requirement of magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, and cobalt. Of special interest is the cedar nut as a natural source of iodine. The daily requirement of iodine is 0.1–0.2 mg, and the cedar nut kernel contains on average 0.577 mg/kg of iodine.
The importance of the flakes with regard to vitamins is characterized by the presence of fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins, the most basic of which are vitamin F, the tocopherols, thiamine, and riboflavin.

Cedar nut flakes should definitely be present in the food allowance of pregnant women, children, and breast-feeding mothers (for lactation). In olden times, when milk was completely absent, children were fed with a mixture prepared from cedar nut flour.
Cedar nut flakes are natural protein, and are extremely suitable for athletes to increase muscle mass.
The flakes have a pleasant nutty taste and aroma, are easily digested, and can include particles of the membrane of the cedar nut pericarp, which is rich in potassium.
Directions for use:
Cedar nut flakes are used as a complement to food (in porridge, salads), as part of flour-based confectionaries, as well as a separate food product. The consumption of 3–5 tablespoons of flakes a day fully provides the organism with essential components.
Cooking Instructions:
1. Fill the bowl with pine nut flakes.
2. Blend your flakes with honey and/or fresh or dry fruits (for example, banana slices, strawberries, kiwi fruit, peach slices etc.)
3. Add warm milk just to cover ingredients and stir. Add more milk if the mix seems too thick and stir again. Instead of milk you can add juice, maple syrup, kefir or yogurt.

1. Cedar Nut Flakes Salad. In a large bowl mix together 1/2 pound romaine lettuce, 1/2 pound quartered cherry tomatoes, 1/2 pound sliced cucumbers, 1/3 cup cedar nut flakes and 1/8 cup finely chopped fresh basil. Pour 3-4 tbsp cedar nut oil and squeeze 1/2 lemon. Add salt to taste and toss well.
2. Tahini Sauce. Mix together 2 tbsp raw tahini, 1/2 juiced Lemon, 1tbsp Honey, 2 pressed garlic cloves and 2 tbsp cedar nut flakes. This sauce goes deliciously with crackers.
3. Protein Milk. Makes: 4-7 cups. Combine 1 cup cedar nut flakes and 3-5 cups water in a blender. You can create the desired thickness by using more or less water. Blend on high for 4-5 minutes. To sweeten add honey, bananas, dates, figs, raisins, maple syrup or your favorite fruit. Blend again until smooth. You can enjoy it thick or strain it through cheesecloth. Protein milk is perfect alone and with your meal. It will keep for 2 days in the refrigerator in a sealed glass container.

‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’
Every year thousands of people visit Damanhur to try out the social model, study the philosophy and to meditate in the Temples of Humankind,
that great underground construction excavated by hand by the citizens
of Damanhur and which many have called the ‘Eighth wonder of the world’.
The Temple Halls are an underground work of art,
a subterranean cathedral created entirely by hand and dedicated to the
divine nature of humanity. It is a great three dimensional book which
recounts the history of Humankind through all the art forms, a path of
re-awakening to the Divine inside and outside of ourselves.
In the Temples of Humankind, every
aspect has a meaning: the colours, the measurements and every detail
follow a precise code of forms and proportions; every Hall has its
specific resonance and its own sound.
The Temples of Humankind symbolically represent the inner rooms inside every human being. Walking through its halls and corridors corresponds to a profound journey inside oneself.
The Temples wind for over 8,500 cubic metres on five different levels,
connected to one another by hundreds of metres of corridors. They arise
in the place where the Eurasian continental plate meets the African
plate, pushing up a mineral 300 million years old: it is mylonite,
a rock that carries the physical energy of the earth. The Temples of
Humankind have been built right inside a vein of this particular
mineral, whose presence follows perfectly the flowing of the ‘Synchronic
Lines’ of the planet. The synchronic lines are like great rivers of
energy which cross the Earth and connect it to the Universe, carrying
ideas, thoughts and dreams. The Temples arise within a ‘shining knot’, a point where four synchronic lines meet.
The Temples are a great laboratory where art and science, technology and spirituality
are united in the research of new roads for the evolution of humanity.
As during the Renaissance, the construction of the Temples of Humankind
has been the influence behind the creation of artistic and craft
workshops, thanks to which Damanhur is valued all over the world.
Keeping pace with the growth of the
Temples of Humankind – which represent the highest collective, artistic
expression – Damanhurian society has refined itself and has created the
basis for its own culture and tradition.

He found their extensive and extraordinary art to be only a very small piece of a story that consumed him for years. After many trips and much research, this self-proclaimed, road weary skeptic opened his eyes and mind to the wonders of this enlightened and innovative community.
This film, originally about art, became a multilayered journey into the heart of a new and growing civilization that must be seen to be believed. A society where nothing is impossible and where there are no limits to what can be done.
